Kindergarten
The kindergartners continue to sing the greeting song and the weather chant (I've included it below). We have fun varying the speed of the chant. Your child will be bringing home a Very Hungry Caterpillar book they've colored.
Weather Chant (chanted while standing)
Il fait froid, froid, froid (sounds like: eel fay frwa, frwa, frwa; motion: shiver with hands crossed over body)
Il fait chaud, chaud, chaud (sounds like: eel fay show, show, show; motion: fan face)
Il pleut, pleut, pleut (sounds like: eel pleuh, pleuh, pleuh; motion: using fingers to mimic rain straight down to the floor)
Il neige, neige, neige (sounds like: eel nej, nej, nej; motion: use fingers to mimic snow falling down and back and forth to the floor )
Grade 1 (FES) & Grades 1 & 2 (MES)
The 1st and 2nd graders continue to use words for school supplies in games and other activities. They've been singing the song "Dans mon sac d'école" and made their own "backpacks" out of paper with school supplies. The song is taped on the back of the backpack. I encourage you to ask them to sing the song to you. They've done a great job learning the words!

A different student is chosen about once a week to be "la personne spéciale du jour" (the special person of the day). They answer various questions about themselves and their preferences.
Grades 2/3 (FES) and Grades 3 & 4 (MES)
The 2nd (FES only), 3rd and 4th graders continue to begin class with a message where they contribute the date and weather. We have also watched some short videos on French speaking cities in other parts of the world (Quebec, Dakar so far).
They continue to use the words for school supplies in games and other activities. The most recent game was "Go fish" in which they have to ask other teams for a matching card using "Avez-vous...?" (sounds like: ah-vay-voo; Do you have...?). I pointed out to one class and will do so with the other classes that asking "Do you have...?" could be very useful in other circumstances besides a card time. I've encouraged and will continue to encourage them to think about how words and phrases they acquire in one context are transferable to other contexts.
Grades 4/5 and 6(FES) and Grades 5/6 (MES)
The 4th, 5th and 6th graders continue to begin class with a message where they contribute the date and weather. We have also watched some short videos on French speaking cities in other parts of the world (Quebec, Dakar so far).

The 5th and 6th graders at Moretown were fortunate to be able to Facetime with one of their classmates who moved to France last year. Unfortunately, the recording wasn't very good but I transcribed his answers to their questions about school so those at Fayston and the 3rd and 4th graders at Moretown will be able to learn about the similarities and differences between school in France and the U.S.
